The one United let go: Scott McTominay’s reinvention in Naples

On Tuesday night at the Maradona, with Napoli’s Champions League campaign in danger of collapsing before it had really started, Scott McTominay scored twice. The first put Napoli 2-1 up just before half-time. The second, a towering header with 15 minutes left, put them back in front at 3-2. Napoli won 4-3 against Bodø/Glimt, the Norwegian side who knocked Inter out of the competition last season, and earned their first points of the league phase.

Less than 24 hours later, Manchester United, the club McTominay joined as a five-year-old, play a Champions League game in Italy, away at Como.
