A European night for Napoli: Reset or reckoning?
Napoli host Bodø/Glimt at the Maradona tonight, kick-off 9pm in Italy and 8pm UK time, in a Champions League game they cannot afford to lose. It is a sentence nobody would have expected to write about the Italian runners-up two months ago.
After seven Serie A games, Napoli are ninth with ten points. On Saturday, they lost 1-0 away at Venezia, the team at the bottom of the table, who had not won a league game all season until then. In Europe, they have played two and lost two.
The temptation is to call it a crisis. The more useful question is whether tonight is the start of a recovery or the moment the problems become impossible to ignore.
