Three games into Roberto Mancini’s second spell, Italy have lost at home to Belgium, won 4-1 in Turkiye and drawn 1-1 away to France. It has been a mixed start. But inside those three results, something more important has begun to appear: The outline of a team.

Mancini called up 34 players for this international window and has used a large part of the squad. He has handed out debuts, rotated heavily and left big names at home. That is how you find out who can cope. With Euro 2028 less than two years away and the road to the 2030 World Cup starting soon after, the question now is not who plays tonight against Turkiye in Bologna. It is who Italy should build around for the next three years.
