Six months ago, Gennaro Gattuso was standing on a touchline in Bosnia watching Italy's World Cup dream die in a penalty shootout. It was the third straight qualification failure for the four-time world champions, and the man in charge took much of the blame. He resigned in April, his reputation as a coach seemingly in tatters.

Today, he is one of the stories of the Serie A season. Five matchdays in, Lazio are unbeaten and level on 13 points with Roma and Inter at the top of the table. According to Opta, it is the best start in the club's Serie A history under the three-points-for-a-win system.
