What’s gone wrong at Fiorentina?

This was supposed to be Fiorentina’s big year. The club turns 100 this season. In the summer it appointed one of the most connected sporting directors in Europe, became one of the busiest clubs in the Italian transfer market and signed young talent from Real Madrid, Tottenham and Sporting. The message was clear: The days of scrapping against relegation were over.

Six games in, Fiorentina are 19th in Serie A with four points, ahead only of pointless Venezia. They have conceded 14 goals. Only Venezia and Monza have let in more. They have already sacked one coach and brought back the man they let go in June. And they sold their best striker, Moise Kean, to Como.
